Getting your porcelain veneers

The process is safe and easy – here’s how it works:

Step 1 – Meet with Dr. Lawson

She’ll take some scans, examine your mouth, and work with you to determine if veneers are right for you, how many you’ll need and what the fastest, safest approach is.

Step 2 – Take molds of your teeth

At a second appointment, Dr. Lawson will trim and refine the enamel on your teeth, then take a mold of them which she’ll use to hand-craft your porcelain veneers.

Step 3 – Check your veneers

After a week or two, your veneers will be ready. At that point, you’ll work with Dr. Lawson to make sure they’re perfect in terms of shape, comfort, and color.

Step 4 – Prepare your teeth

If everything looks and feels right, Dr. Lawson will prepare your teeth by thoroughly cleaning them and gently applying a light texture to the enamel for a strong, secure fit.

Step 5 – Place your veneers

Finally, Dr. Lawson will attach your veneers using dental cement, then apply an ultraviolet light that activates the adhesive, creating a firm bond between each veneer and tooth.

Porcelain Veneers Frequently Asked Questions

How much do porcelain veneers cost?

The cost of veneers depends on the individual’s case and need, but in general it is about $2000/unit. With any procedure, Dr. Lawson wants to make sure to provide the best situation for your need and budget, so contact her first for a consultation!

What is the difference between veneers and crowns?

Veneers are more appropriate for patients wanting to avoid orthodontic work, yet still want to correct alignment and crowding, color or shape.

If a patient has experienced severe crowding (and is denying ortho), loss of tooth length, or enamel, a crown may be more appropriate for bond strength.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

In a healthy mouth (low cavity risk, great hygiene, no tobacco or major health concerns, even bite and sleep apnea/grinding/clenching that is treated, etc.) they can last decades–compared to bonding that only lasts 7-10 years or less. It all depends on how someone cares for them, and protecting the investment with a guard, botox and bite equilibration.

Are their certain foods to avoid with porcelain veneers?

Even though veneers are built to last, it is still wise to avoid acidic foods or those that causes cavities. It is still natural tooth structure underneath, and with poor diet and lack of dental care, it’s the tooth structure underneath that disintegrates – not the veneer that fails.

BE SURE to let Dr. Lawson know if you are put on a mood stabilizer, sleep medication or anti-anxiety medication, as those are known to cause grinding and we want to protect your investment:-)

How many are necessary to create the smile of my dreams?

Dr. Lawson firstly recommends an even number, just to make sure your smile remains symmetrical. But each case is difference and Dr. Lawson loves to show her patients what their smile can look like with a Trial Smile Design!

Does my insurance pay for them?

Insurance will cover a crown if there is insufficient tooth structure or a root canal has been done, but it is extremely rare that a veneer is covered. However, healthcare spending accounts (HSAs) and flex accounts can be used!
