MTM® Clear Aligners

Minor Tooth Movement (MTM®) Clear Aligners

Malocclusion—the state of crooked teeth—is a serious problem that many patients underestimate, especially in minor cases. If your teeth aren’t obviously out of alignment, then you may not feel as though you need orthodontic treatment. However, your tooth alignment affects more than just your smile; it can also affect your bite balance. An unbalanced bite can place certain teeth under undue stress. Crooked teeth are also harder to keep clean with basic hygiene, which increases your risks of tooth decay, periodontal disease, and more. If you hesitate to straighten your crooked teeth because you worry about traditional orthodontic treatment, Dr. Lawson may suggest MTM® (minor tooth movement) aligners. The clear aligners are virtually undetectable, and can completely straighten your smile in as little as three to six months!

Discreet and Comfortable Orthodontic Treatment

Conventional orthodontics typically involves a system of metal brackets bonded to your teeth and an arch wire that connects them. Orthodontic correction is achieved by applying pressure through the arch wire to gently move your teeth. By contrast, MTM® aligners utilize a series of custom-designed, clear, acrylic aligners that fit comfortably and discreetly over your teeth. MTM® aligners are designed to guide teeth through a prescribed path of movement utilizing the unique design of the aligners to move your teeth, rather than brackets and wires.  Without brackets and wires jutting out, clear aligners are significantly more comfortable than traditional braces. Since they can be temporarily removed, the aligners also make eating and daily hygiene easier and more effective.

If your teeth are out of alignment, but you don’t want to wear braces to correct them, ask Dr. Lawson about your eligibility for MTM® clear aligners instead! Schedule a consultation as soon as possible by calling our office in Urbandale, IA, today at 515-278-4366.
