Cosmetic Tooth Bonding & Contouring
Small imperfections to your teeth, such as excessive wear or a chipped edge, can have a prominent influence on the overall appearance of your smile. The good news is that, in many cases, such blemishes can effectively be corrected with minimally invasive tooth bonding and/or contouring. Often performed during a single visit, cosmetic bonding and contouring can change the size, shape, outline, and color of your teeth, bringing back the youthful look of your smile, along with your confidence.
Tooth Bonding
Tooth bonding is the process of applying layers of tooth-colored composite resin to build up and revitalize tooth structure. In addition to rejuvenating worn teeth and erasing minor cracks, bonding can also correct odd-spacing, allowing us to close the noticeable gap between teeth (known as a diastema). Dr. Lawson will carefully bond the resin to the appropriate area of the tooth, then artfully shape the resin to match the ideal contour. Finally, Dr. Lawson will cure the resin with a special light and polish it for a durable and attractive lifelike finish.
Tooth Contouring
Like bonding, tooth contouring is designed to change the shape of a tooth. The difference, however, is that contouring involves lightly sculpting a tooth that has sharp, rough, and/or jutting edges. During tooth contouring, Dr. Lawson sculpts a minimal amount of enamel—the outer layer of the tooth—to create a more symmetrical and attractive smile. Contouring can also help prevent a jagged tooth from scraping and scratching against soft oral tissues, which could lead to infection and other oral health complications.
One of the biggest benefits of bonding and contouring is that they can create dramatic smile improvements with minimal or no changes to the healthy structure of your tooth.
