Creating Your Dental Crown In One Visit

Often, people avoid the dentist because there is simply little time in their hectic schedules for multiple visits to treat a tooth. In order to prevent busy schedules from standing between people and the care they desperately need, we offer a system that allows us to create and place crowns in one visit. In today’s blog, we’re looking at the E4D system and how this helps patients in Urbandale, IA, enjoy healthier smiles.

What is a Dental Crown?

Unlike a filling, which targets a specific area of the tooth, a crown covers the entire visible portion of your tooth, from the gum line up. The prosthetic has the potential to address a variety of cosmetic and restorative problems, improving the tooth’s color, shape, function, and health. In the past, receiving one meant between two and three visits, as well as up to two weeks of wearing a temporary restoration. However, CAD/CAM technology now enables us to complete the entire process in one sitting, correcting your smile quickly and allowing you to resume your regular routine!

The E4D System

With the E4D system, we begin by preparing the tooth. We need to remove enough structure to make room for the new restoration. Instead of having the patient bite down on a sticky mold to create an impression, we take a series of digital images. These images allow the dentist to create a 3D computer model, designing your crown with greater accuracy. Next, we upload the information into the E4D milling machine, which sits on site. The machine then crafts the crown from a solid block of ceramic. We use ceramic due to the material’s strength and lifelike appearance. We then check the fit and place the completed restoration in the same visit.

Benefits for Your Smile

What issues will our custom restoration address? Well, we’ve used them to reshape malformed teeth or repair cracked, chipped, and worn-down teeth. They help address severe cases of tooth decay and complete treatments designed to address infection, such as root canal therapy. Placement also helps correct the color of the tooth and correct issues with the surface, such as pits or grooves. For those with missing teeth, we may create them to secure a dental bridge or to restore a single tooth dental implant, returning smiles to optimal health, function, and appearance.
