« Root Canal Therapy
Many people mistakenly believe that root canal therapy causes pain. In fact, root canal therapy can save an injured tooth and relieve your discomfort. It’s a conservative alternative to extraction, and today, root canals often take just one visit. Furthermore a root canal relieves internal pressure, thus eliminating pain long term.
Every tooth has three parts: a hard outer shell of enamel, a softer layer of dentin, and an inner core of nerve cells, called pulp. This center area nourishes the tooth and keeps it healthy. If the pulp sustains extensive damage, from a deep cavity, injury, or fracture, it can die, and infection will cause pressure to build inside the tooth.
During a root canal, Dr. Lawson will remove infection, fill your tooth’s canal with a safe material, and place a crown. Though you may experience some mild soreness, most patients feel relief shortly following root canal therapy.
